Waxing or Cream Waxing Blues?
« on: January 30, 2013, 04:44:15 PM »
Has anyone ever cream waxed a blue or regular cheese waxed one? I know that cheese Roaring Forties is waxed but I never hear anyone talk about waxing blues. On that same vein, can you apply cream wax to a wheel of blue? Thanks for the advice.

It's usually easier now to bag blues. But waxing or painting with pva is a valid approach. Works about the same, with some differences in permeability.

Don't you need air to get to the blue mold so it can grow?  I guess if you already have all the veining you desire, you could wax it then...but what do I know?  I'm still learning.  :)

Not that much. Most strains will grow with minimal levels, but without much color, and slowly. Generally, blues would be waxed as you suggested (or bagged for that matter). Coatings/bags/wax are a management tool.
