Disappointed in the change at Dairy Connection
« on: January 03, 2013, 03:08:28 AM »
Dairy Connection just changed their website. Now for someone who is a hobby cheese maker like myself, the selection is limited, and is found on a separate website: www.getculture.com

I don't recall what the selection was like at Dairy Connection. It has been a while since I used them.

I do find a lot to like with the new incarnation GetCulture.com though. They have a lot of the common cultures used and their prices are competitive with other vendors. They also carry the ExTech PH100, though it is marked up a little higher than elsewhere.

I look at it like this. It's another source for your cheesemaking supplies. Occasionally a supplier may be out of a particular ingredient you want. It's good to have secondary sources.

For my needs I have used these suppliers:It just looks like Dairy Connection has created their original site as a wholesale outlet and created a retail/hobbiest outlet with GetCultures.

Don't forget iratherfly AKA Yoav, a member here.  He doesn't have a website (yet, AFAIK) but responds quickly to PMs through the board.  He has a good stock of virtually anything you could want for cheese making at very competitive prices.

I apologize for the unnecessary whining. I embarrassed myself here. I had been looking for an item, and could not find it and assumed incorrectly that this change was not a good one. Dairy Connection remains a great resource and I will happily order from them.

Scanner,  I'm glad you posted about this site because I went to it and noticed that it's a great resource for quick descriptions about cultures, molds, etc and now I use it as my go to source when I need a quick reminder of what something is.  Thank you!

Doesn't make much difference as the web site seems to be experiencing technical difficulties. :'(

I recently placed an order with them (two weeks ago) and got a call from one of their customer relations people telling me that one of my culture choices was close to 'best used by' date and if I still wanted it, they would discount the cost.
Very pleasant person.
I give them a thumbs up!

I like getculture.com, but also use the following sources in addition to those already mentioned for various cheesemaking items.  Pricing and shipping costs can vary quite a bit sometimes, so it's worth checking multiple sources....and always look for online coupons/promotion codes for these sites too.

thecheesemaker.com
midwestsupplies.com (also great for my winemaking supplies!)
thebeveragepeople.com
hoeggerfarmyard.com
sausagemaker.com
leeners.com

Got a couple of women who run the back door in my store and they cope just fine. Is there anything stopping them from applying to work at the distribution centre? Im sure if they want to do it they will.
