Hello from NH!
« on: March 25, 2013, 12:53:11 PM »
Hello everyone!
I recently joined this forum and would like to introduce myself :)
I live in rural NH and have owned and raised dairy goats for about four years now. We bought our first doe in milk who gave us two gallons a day. This is how we started making cheese. We make the basic farmer's cheese, chevre and mozzarella. I have made cream cheese in the past but I have found that chevre tastes better, is easier to make and is more versatile.
I joined this forum hoping to expand my skills and possibly be able to help people looking for the same. I have two does in milk and could possible have four going if I can hone my skills a little more to make different cheeses.
My dream is to supply ALL of our dairy products from our goats. (cheese, milk, butter, ice cream etc)
I look forward to being a part of this forum :)

Welcome Sunshine , I used to raise goats many years ago too.

Two gallons a day is a VERY good goat , I had one that did two gallons a day as well , a small nubian.

Cheers , Jim.

Thanks for the welcome :) She IS a very good goat..a Saanen who I love :) I am currently milking two goats (alpines) once a day while they feed there kids. I am getting a little over a gallon a day from them... Once I wean thier kids completely I should be swimming in milk ;)  Any suggestions on more beginner cheeses will be greatly appreciated..
I currently make chevre and mozzarella regularly..I am about to order more cultures but I am unsure of what to try next!
