Soy milk and soy yoghurt
« on: August 17, 2013, 02:24:05 PM »
My family uses quite a lot of soy milk and soy yoghurt and I'm trying to find out if it's worthwhile to make it myself.
I know of the existence of soy milk makers and yoghurt makers and heard that making soy yoghurt from soy milk is about the same as making yoghurt from normal milk.
But I'm looking for somebody who really has done this with success and who can confirm that it is cheap (except for the appliances) and easy to do...

Herman,  I got a soy milk maker but didn't have much luck with it and then my research seemed to indicate that soy that is not fermented (as in tempeh is a fermented product) has too many estrogenic compounds plus it blocks absorption of certain other nutrients.....sorry, can't remember which ones.  Also, most soy is at least somewhat contaminated with GMO......so I gave up on soy milk totally.  Rice and almond milk are easy to make and more healthy.  I had a friend who visited and made sunflower seed cheese but that was years ago.

Thanks for the reply Kathrin. It seems that the soy here in the bio-shops is not GMO contaminated (not Monsanto-sourced...).
I'll continue my investigation for now...
