No, it is not recommended by the USDA and it is a personal choice.
However, I was basically giving ideas on how to preserve the milk for feeding to pigs. I did not mean to be hugely controversial here.

what type of pot have you found to can 1/2 gallon jars in?
I would love to be able to can tomato sauce in those!

I use my cheesemaking kettle - holds 6 gallons of milk/water and is plenty tall enough for the 1/2 gallon jars. I put the rack from my regular canner in the bottom of it to prevent the jars from breaking.

My Wife uses
one of these
water bath canners, we do half gallon jars all the time

HKJ there is not enough head space with that canner for 1/2 gallons. You do it but I would feel better having more space on top just to be sure.

Ok maybe the one I showed you isn't the same size as ours. we have plenty of head room, showed only as an example.
do some search on your own Google aint that hard to use.

I have searched, that is why I asked. I have found most large stock pots seem big enough but do not actually give the space required to safely can. I suppose i could spend a fortune but though if someone had found one it would be good.

I have been looking for a larger pot/vat for my cheese making, I know you can spend one helluvuh lot of cash.
amazon has a heck of lot of larger pots some very spendy but I have found some very reasonable.
here's what I mean
if you look in the left hand column you can check out even larger Stockpot Capacity's,
as you say that is when they become very expensive.
