Ullmer's mold/mould/hoop --- Worth it?
« on: October 21, 2009, 09:49:59 PM »
I'm looking at a 5"x5" cylindrical stainless mould from Ullmer's... They want $25 for it, which seems a little spendy..  I've also been considering one or two of their 8oz Kadova moulds...  I'm relatively new to cheesemaking, so want to get some good multi-purpose equipment so my wife doesn't just shoot me outright...

Someone posted elsewhere that IKEA these wonderful cheesemolds.... actually, they are SS kitchen utensil holders with tons of perforations all over.  I haven't used them, but they look awesome for 1/4 the price of Ulmers.

Depends on the cheese you are making, as well.  I am not sure how those holes do for loose curds like Brie, but for something with a cheesecloth and follower, they might be really good.

Again as I mentioned eariler these SS molds are really heavy gauge molds. If you buy the Kadova molds tell them you can get them for $25 elsewhere. That's what I paid for them. They hold just about a pound of cheese.

Debi:

They say (on the website) that the Kadova molds are 8oz molds... Is your experience that they're actually 16oz molds?
