I had been thinking about buying a cheese press but they seemed way too expensive. Husband built me this in half an hour, works great. Cost under £8 to build.

Boy has he won some brownie points ;)

Based on DaggerDoggies press no 1 with some extra strength on the base

My SIL made me one almost identical and won many browny points too.  There are a couple of post of it in the recipe section under either the monterey jack or the pepato recipes.
I would think that the top plate would need to be fairly thick, as that is where all the weights are going to be placed.
So, what cheese are you going to make to try it out?

Tea good Q

Ive done a fair amount of gouda and feta. I dont feel skilled enough to try a brie style or a blue. Parmesan takes more time to mature than Ive got before we move and cheddar also seems a bit too tricky, Any suggestions?

Well I loved the monterey jacks that I made, preferably the herb and garlic ones.
If you like peppercorns, my friend assured me that the pepato's were great, and now wants me to teach her.
So either of these I think would be great for a first time pressing.
