hi from west virginia mtns.

hi from the high allegheny mountains of west virginia .
i was a milk maid for two years and my DH was the cheesemaker.
We made swiss cheese for the local swiss village of helvetia.
we are now retired from that .

hi Nancy and welcome to the cheese forums. you live in a beautiful area thats for sure. not sure what a milk maid is but i would really be interested in hearing about your experiences in cheese making. do you still make any cheese ?

ha ha , milk maid is the one who supplies the bucket of milk to the cheesemakler every day !!!!!
she takes care of the cows too.
LOL
no we are not making cheese anymore.
we made swiss , similar to appenzeller, it was real good cheese , we used unpasteurized milk .
we made about 150 pounds a week for quite a few months a year for 2 years .
lots of work involved !!!
