Humidity Controller in Australia
« on: June 03, 2010, 06:27:15 AM »

For those looking for a good Humidity controller have a gander at http://perfectconcepts.com.au/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=3&products_id=9&zenid=ac31ba78f5ec685bd451fc148957ed2f, they are priced well ($89.00AU)and coupled with an Ultrasonic humidifier they will take all the guess work out of controlling your cheese cave.
I am in the process of building a temperature and humidity control box for a friends Salami making adventure using one of these as well as a Temp controller so if anyone is interested I can let you know how it turns out.

Cheers
Andrew

Yes, please post up how that works out.  I  noticed that controller is for 220VAC.  That's not the most convenient voltage.

Arrrggghhh, where were you couple weeks ago Andrew. I just bought an Arduino microcontroller board, relays and a humidity/temp sensor to build my cave which costed almost the same price...

JohnnyBHammerer, as that's our operating voltage here in Aus. it works well for me ;D.

Sorry about that Gürkan, if it's any consolation it took my friend a lot of research to find this unit and I only discovered it a couple of days ago. Coupled with a temp controller and ultrasonic mister it should be a fairly elegant solution to temp and humidity control.

I'll keep the thread updated as the build proceeds.

Cheers

Finally have everything I need, the controller box is larger than required to accommodate a second set of controllers for a separate cheese cave and salami cave.
I have already made the cut outs.

And the finished product.
Humidity controller on the left will monitor and turn on/off an ultrasonic humidifier, controller on the right will monitor temps, it's a cooling and heating model that will alternately turn on/off the fridge to cool and turn on/off an incandescent light bulb or other heat source to warm. Little bit of tidying up on the internal wiring still to do.

That's a great looking setup Andrew!
Where about did you get the temp controller from?

Temp Controller came from Craftbrewer, http://www.craftbrewer.com.au/shop/details.asp?PID=2592. It's a great unit that handles heating as well as cooling.

Great stuff. I've had the FridgeMate controller for years but I'd never come across one that could power a heat source as well as the fridge.
So how did it turn out once you connected the humidifier? are you getting good results?

From what I can gather the unit is working very well, there was a problem with the fridge that was initially used, it was a style that blows cold air from the freezer section to cool the fridge. The problem seemed to be the very cold dry air was causing a massive drop in humidity when the fridge was on and then a massive  rise in humidity when the fridge turned off, the humidity controller and humidifier had trouble keeping up with the large fluctuations.
However a fridge with a cooling plate on the back internal wall has not had that problem at all and the humidity seems to be fairly constant so that seems to have solved the problem.

Aged thread.  I believe this is the "DHC100" out of China, yes?  Any further updates?

Hi all, first post, but I'm afraid it's a bit 'un-cheesy' if that's ok.

@ OP - in your kit form of the components for this unit, you have two switches on the table, yet the finished article has three installed on the front of the box.

Can you please explain why this is?  Being a non-cheese person, it's not immediately apparent why this should be the case.

Cheers.

Hi,
thanks to the OP for the great info, this seems to be a tidy solution to something that is relatively hard to set up for the non specialist.
I am wondering if you have a link to a specific ultrasonic humidifier that you have used with the controller please, i think the ultrasonic device would prove a lot better at discrete humidity control than say a mister or sprayer.

also just curious (not to get you in trouble or anything) but are you an electrician and if not approximately how much input from an electrician was needed, i ask this as i am trying to keep costs down and as much as i can do as a hobbyist the better.
Thanks Glen

for anyone who has  electronics skills, or a friend that does, just saw this weather station hack which people may find useful for monitoring changes in their cave.

hope it helps.
