Places in Canada to buy portable milker?
« on: October 05, 2010, 12:09:42 AM »
Hi all does anyone know of place in Canada that sells portable milkers? Google has thus far proven less then helpful. The better half of the milking team is starting to get some nasty swelling. So we have let the calves have their way with to cow for the last few days.

Hi Mouldy!

I don't know about Canadian suppliers but I suppose an American supplier could ship to Canada?
Here are a few places to try:
http://partsdeptonline.com/
http://hambydairysupply.com
http://gilesdairyservice.com/index.html
http://www.hoeggergoatsupply.com (yes, they are mostly goat but the sizes of things are good for family cow people)
http://www.enasco.com/

I got my milker from a woman on the family cow forum who buys used parts and pieces them together.  This is a home based business so she is sometimes quite slow and you have to pay 100% upfront before she ships (that's unnerving) but then her prices are much cheaper and she will talk with you on the phone until you understand your machine.  So far I'm still hand milking just because the machines are go cumbersome and have to be cleaned so throughly.

I'm in Canada and I bought mine from www.portablemilkers.com/  Shipping was very reasonable.  The biggest expense is going to be the pump so if you can locate an older model and refurbish it you'll save a ton.  Other parts like the buckets and lids can be found if you look-I found a bunch on kijiji.
