Wine fridge racks to wood
« on: April 05, 2012, 12:37:34 PM »
Hi all,

I picked up a 40 bottle wine cooler and it has the curvy wire shelves.  I want to make some flat ones out of wood.  Is there any preferred type of wood to use, or any type to definitely stay away from?

I don't want to go crazy with teak.  Just something I can grab at home depot.

I'm guessing no pine or other soft/sappy woods...

Welcome and good question. Try Searching on "wood" in the EQUIPMENT - Aging Cheese, Everything Except Caves board and you'll find a few discussions on wood boards.

I have seem all types of wood used from pine to maple. Not sure if there is a reason those were selected. Probably just what is most available. Personally I don't think I would use pine.

Thanks for the welcome!  I think I'll stay away from pine and other sappy woods.

Going to make my first cheese, a cheddar this weekend!  Excited!  I'll document & post.    :)
