Hello I am new from Portland Oregon
« on: May 01, 2012, 08:52:22 PM »
Hi Everyone,
I am new to cheese-making but I am already having a blast!  I made some yogurt and then hung some of it in the shower to make Labneh.  It turned out so good now I want to try other cheeses.

I am also trying to get an urban farming non-profit off the ground. If you live in Portland Oregon area come check it out.  http://www.citybounty.org/forum

This webforum is a bit overwhelming but I can't wait to wade in and learn.  Very glad I found you all.  Thanks for collecting so much great info into one place.

Welcome Pam.  I just joined this forum very recently and started making cheeses.  This is the best place on the web to come to learn about cheesemaking.

I made some yogurt and then hung some of it in the shower to make Labneh.
Now there's a novel technique I hadn't heard about before. How long does it stay in the shower and does it prefer a cold shower or warm and soothing?

Welcome to the forum, Pam. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Use the SEARCH function. Post pictures if you have them.

Let's ferment something!
Bread, beer, wine, cheese...it's all good.

LOL You are all so much fun!
I hung the yogurt in a pillowcase and tied the pillowcase over the shower rod to hang it over the bathtub so it would drain in a place that wouldn't make a mess all over.  No water needed.  Then after 24 hours you take it down and knead the cheese into a ball and refridgerate it.  It is great on a bagel. (think Creamcheese)
Thanks for the warm welcome.
Pam

Sturdy press! I bought mine at Kookoolan and love it. So i saw a user who had the lever sitting above the pin B not below, i thought it was supposed to be below the pin. Am I correct? Can it go above 150lbs as you add more weight? Have been doing lots of cheese this month and love the press, great work!

J & K, Glad you like the press, Kookoolan farms sell a lot of them.

Your right the lever arm should be under the pin so the pin is touching the anti-friction plate.

You can go far above 150 lbs pressing weight, to see how much higher do a search on this forum of " breaking news "
