Title: flexible temp wine refrigerators that last?
Post by: JoannaCW on November 05, 2009, 07:08:46 PM
I'm looking to buy a wine fridge, with ~2 cubic feet of capacity, for aging my waxed cheeses.  Some models seem to require a very narrow and consistent surrounding temperature, which I can't count on in my wood-heated space.  Others have some negative comments about durability at Amazon.  Could any of you who have been using wine fridges for at least a couple of years tell me what brands/models you've used? Thank you.

I have a couple of CoolZone CZ51148 coolers:

I took it apart to check how it works, and it's basically just a simple TEC with fans either side.  Luckily it's quite well sealed internally, so it's possible (with a bit of modification) to maintain relatively high humidity.

It automatically adjusts temperature to the required level, and seems accurate to within ~2C which isn't too bad.

I've been using them permanently for the past 9 months or so without any trouble whatsoever.
