Has anyone tried using a cork borer as a makeshift cheese trier? I'm tempted to try-they're inexpensive and come in lots of sizes. I'm just not sure if the pin that comes with it is wide enough to push the cheese sample out properly. Thoughts?

As you say, the pusher may need to be modified or replaced with something else.
Let us know how it goes if you do try it.

I've seen at least one person on here using one. I have used a potato peeler. If you have a hardware store nearby, and have access to a bench grinder, see if they have any stainless steel tubing or copper tubing. You can easily make one using either. Prices are ridiculous.
