Title: How'bout that for a cheese press?
Post by: pamaples on June 07, 2009, 08:11:34 PM
Here is what I have come up with for a cheese press. The weights are movable to ensure a level press. The plate steel is in the shape of an iron pan and it doubles as my heat spreader for cooking the curds. The mold is a small bamboo steamer with stainless steel screen (cut from a fry pan splatter shield) in the bottom. The follower is the lid of an old wide mouth peanut butter jar.

Hopefully there are pictures attached...

WOW! It looks like it weighs a ton! If it works do it - just make sure it's clean and sterile.

you could also use it to make grilled cheese sandwiches with your fresh cheese! :)

My Mom  used to use a pyrex coffee pot in a balck cast iron pan to make grilled cheese. They were awsome! Flat - but awsome!
