Title: Buying Cheese Online - Shipping Temperature?
Post by: ozbuck on June 06, 2012, 12:30:06 AM
Hi everyone!

This is my first post. I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to cheese, but hopefully I can get some good feedback from you guys =)

A few questions:

1. I'm thinking of ordering some cheese online to be delivered to me and I'm wondering how essential it is for the cheese to be kept at a certain temperature?

2. Are there any cheeses that do not require refrigeration at all?

3. Are there any cheeses that require refrigeration at all times?

Thanks!

Oz

Hello Oz, and welcome to the forum.

I have ordered cheese from igourmet (http://www.igourmet.com/shoppe/cheese.asp) perhaps a half dozen times over the past couple years. It always arrives in good shape and their prices are reasonable.

They use styrofoam box in a cardboard shipping box with a cold pac inside. Of course the cooler months are the most optimal for shipping and receiving cheese, but iGourmet ships quickly, especially if it's a soft or lactic cheese. The harder cheeses are more durable and forgiving.

My cheese purchases have helped give me a better idea of what particular cheese styles should look, smell, feel, and taste like.
