Title: pH Meters For Dairy - Recommendation?
Post by: Margo McIntosh on July 18, 2012, 11:23:57 AM
Is there a source for an inexpensive PH meter for home cheese making that is reliable?

If you do a search on the forum there are several threads discussing pH meters. A number of folks (myself included) have found favor in ExStik meters. There is the PH100 (http://www.extech.com/instruments/product.asp?catid=69&prodid=430) and PH110 (http://www.extech.com/instruments/product.asp?catid=69&prodid=431).

Thanks Boofer!  I appreciate the help.  I need to get one of these before I go much further on this cheese making journey.  :0)

What price range are those probes, Boofer?  I looked on their site but there is no indication of prices there.
I can't find them in SA either so would need to have it sent out. (Probably out of my price range anyway, but one can dream!)

Here's the Amazon price point.

I couldn't imagine being able to tweak a cheese where it needs to be without my pH100. Yeah, yeah...the REAL cheesemakers didn't have them or need them and they made great cheeses. But I don't have their years of experience and refinement so I need a little technological assistance.  ;)

*scream*  Ya.. it will remain a dream! By the time I translate American dollars into SA Rand that becomes far out of my price range, even before the transportation.

Never mind, I will simply have to pretend to be a "real" cheesemaker and let my years of inexperience guide me!

Thanks for your trouble Boofer.
