Title: Mailing cheese cultures to Costa Rica
Post by: joru72 on May 11, 2012, 04:24:56 PM
Hi,
I'm new here. I'm wondering if any of you living in Costa Rica get your cultures mailed to you from the internet and how you do that. Aerocasillas or other service? PO Box at the post office? Is there a problem getting them through Customs? Thanks,
Jodi

Over a year ago I had some mailed to me at my PO box - actually never had any problems about anything with my post office - BUT - I heard through the grapevine the $500 tax exemption for stuff via the mail service has been rescinded and I heard a lot of complaints via another Board that anything and everything was having huge duties attached.  So I really dont know how the situation is now.  Sorry.

You should request express shipping (ideally 2-3 days delivery) and perhaps the addition of an ice pack to prevent exposing the cultures to heat and lose some viability.
