Title: sourcing moulds in Europe
Post by: Salilah on April 08, 2013, 05:21:16 PM
I apologise for this post - but I'm declaring my search incompetence!

There are some stunning European cheese moulds - and my sympathies for all the folks here based in the US as you need to import these
However...
Would anyone be prepared to share any sources of moulds in Europe that I could source directly? (hobbyist numbers, not large)
It seems a bit daft for someone in the US to import from Europe, then for me to order from the US (with customs challenges) to reimport to Europe
However, my searching ability is pretty poor
I'm particularly interested in a manchego style form (patterning) or one of the italian ones
I have small beakers and a couple pyramids - I'd like to do the slightly larger firmer cheeses (still only at 3L milk though!)

many thanks for any suggestions
S  :)

Hi Salilah, our current listing of supply stores is here: http://cheeseforum.org/articles/links/links-supply-stores/ (http://cheeseforum.org/articles/links/links-supply-stores/).

There are some reviews of suppliers in the forum Board here: http://cheeseforum.org/forum/index.php/board,189.0.html (http://cheeseforum.org/forum/index.php/board,189.0.html)

Cheers, John.

Thanks for this post!
Which Italian molds are you looking for. The only Italian website I have come across so far is  http://WWW.tecnolatte.it (http://WWW.tecnolatte.it) molds are called fuscelle or forme. If you have a specific form you are looking for that you can't find, let me know what it is (as well as the traditional Italian cheese it is usually used to make) and I can ask around if anyone has it or could order it.
Good luck!

Hi Sali,

Leidinger (http://www.kaesereibedarf-leidinger.com/) has a wide range of moulds. I recently ordered a bigger Tomme there. But it is in German.
Also The cheesemakers-choise (http://www.cheesemakers-choice.com/) can be interesting for you, the website is in different languages and they do have Manchego moulds...

I'll have a look on there - thank you!
This is one I rather liked:
"#57310, Sicialino Cheese Mold.  Imported from Italy.  Beautiful basket weave Height:  5.1", Top Diameter:  6.7", Circumference:  21".  Holds 3# 15,50 ounces of curd.  Price:  $12.75 each."
from site: http://stores.cheeseconnection.net/cheesemoulds.html (http://stores.cheeseconnection.net/cheesemoulds.html)
(about half way down the page)

however I'm still exploring, and I don't know what cheese that would make, I just thought it looked nice!! <grin>
I'll check out the site you mentioned - many thanks

thank you!  the cheesemakers choice does have some good moulds at good prices - and I will definitely go for the manchego! (just need to work out which size - the smallest i think, I can't do more than about 4L of milk at a time!)
I'll also check out leidinger -
many thanks

Hi Sali, I'll keep my eye out and ask around, if I can find it, I will let you know where, that will make a beautiful pattern on your cheese!  I might get one for myself too ;)
