Title: Venting ageing cave
Post by: smilingcalico on February 04, 2011, 05:41:09 AM
I've been asked to figure out a venting system for an ageing cave that is 400 square feet. Given that the ceiling is 8 ft, that's 3200 square feet of air.  I plan on rigging an air scrubber, in conjunction with a passive air exchange accomplished by a low vent for incoming air, and a high vent for outgoing air.
With a passive air exchange, is the air scrubber necessary, or overkill?  What size vent would be ideal so as to not have extreme air movement (drying out the cheese)?  Is ideal placement of vents on opposite wall, same wall?  How about taking into account the location of the cooling unit? Should I keep the exhaust vent as far away from the unit?  If the cooler blows from north to south, should the vents be on the east and west walls?
Thanks for any suggestions.

Hey Smiley.

I think you accidentally posted this in the wrong forum. :) This has everything but the caves. Anyway, here's a thread of coffee joe building his cave in Brazil where many cave related issues were discussed. Francois, the local cave master and of course LB posted there. There's also a link to a research paper done on cave construction and such.

LOL, so I did.  I was wondering why this post wasn't getting any hits.  I'll take a look at the Brazilian cave.   I have the study downloaded, but haven't gotten to read through the whole thing yet.  Maybe my answer is in there.  Thanks KB!
