Title: Egg crate and dishwasher
Post by: george on June 11, 2013, 05:29:05 PM
Has anyone run egg crate through the dishwasher to sanitize?  Does it melt?  (I'm thinking boiling would definitely melt it.)

Any help appreciated, trying to get my setup figured out in the new digs.   :)

I AM a dishwasher so can't experiment with the non-person ones but I can verify that mine slumped when I steamed for too long.  less time and it would have been okay.  I've been meaning to ask what others do.

Nice to see you out and about on the forum! :D

I've put a couple segments of mine in the dishwasher, top shelf/drawer, and they did fine.  We did not use the "sanitize" setting, though, for fear of melting them.

It is ABS plastic, which is good to around 75C. I would not sanitize with steam, but you could put in the wash cycle of dishwasher and then remove for sanitizing.

That's what I was hoping I could do - thanks!

I did boil one of mine, don't put it on the bottom of the pot it will do weird things ( it was still usable)
I now wash in the dish washer then when I get my sanitizer ready for the make I dip them and air dry
has worker fine for me.
