Someone posted a bunch of posts (since removed) that seemed just random posts not cheese related or forum related. The discussion on this thread was more related to those posts or what a troll post is.

When did that happen? That's annoying.

a month or 2 ago? They were removed pretty promptly...there were maybe 15 or 20 all told. More of a spamming than anything else

Slemps

FYI, any random posts or thin content posts that feature a link are looking to increase the number of inbound links to their site.

This is an old SEO technique designed to boost their ranking in Google. It's out of date and can do more harm than good these days but it still happens.

Usually it is automated (including the actual post content) which is why you see posts that make no sense. Software is used to post millions of forum posts automatically.

One of the best ways to fight it is to increase the difficulty of your registration process, ie more difficult captchas etc.

Hope this helps.
Sam.

Curdlessness

For what it's worth, there are also modules which can be added to most forum software packages that set up the rule that no one can post unless their membership has been approved by a moderator.

Might be worth looking into, one might say?
