I can't find cheese wax anywhere except ordering it and the shipping is more than the wax. Can I use parrafin to wax my cheese? I want to make a farmhouse cheddar or a gouda, but I don't have wax. :-\

Paraffin wax is pretty brittle and will crack quite easily.  I bought cheesewax online and waxed my first few cheddars, but ended up with cracks in it, too.  It was quite discouraging, so I went to using lard to coat my aged cheeses.  I've been very happy with that method.

I hate waxing. Even if it can be used over it. I prefer to use olive oil or vaccuum bagging. Cheddars are great with the lard bandage method, but I still have to have omeone else remove the bandage because it will develop mold well (I am alergic to green mold).

Can i do a natural rind on a cheddar? I don't have a vacuum sealer nor the funds to buy one at this time. How do you do a lard and bandage wrap and would that work on Gouda too??

The best illustration I know for cloth bandaging is: Here

It will work on any cheese you want to age.
