Title: Goat Stomach from the Halal Butcher's
Post by: Frodage on December 14, 2014, 07:05:40 PM
I'm trying to source my cheese making supplies as locally as possible. I was at my local halal butcher and noticed they have frozen goat stomach for sale. I presume it is from an adult goat. Would this do as a local source of rennet, or should I just keep buying the tablets from my online supplier?

You would need to get the stomach of a young animal that was still nursing in order to harvest your own rennet. Adult ruminants don't need rennet to coagulate milk.

Last night, they had fresh lamb stomach for sale. Would this coagulate the milk?
