I'm working for quite a while with a self-made offline program written in Delphi.
At the moment I'm working at a version that can be translated in whatever language and will run on both Windows and Mac.
Would be interesting to see what others make...

Hey, you could also make it easy to select whether the rennet is single or double strength and have it adjust the recipe.  It'd also be nice to have the recipe get adjusted for milk type :  raw vs. P/H, goat vs cow vs sheep vs water buffalo
a culture resource would be a nice feature too with info about each culture

The big issue is.....where do the recipes come from and how is choosing them?  A make is partly as good as it's recipe and partly as good as how well the maker followed it.
Those are nice ideas, thanks! :)
I'll see if I can't implement them.

As for the recipes, they come from the actual users. You will have the ability to create your own recipe from scratch or create a modified version of another recipe. :-)
Since this will be a web-based application, your recipes will be easily shared online :)

Thanks Brian :-)

It will have a US/metric option, allowing you to convert recipes on the fly :)

Gobae

Has there been any additional progress made with these cheese logging/tracking software developments? I just got a tablet, the Android SDK, and I can write my own, but didn't want to reinvent the wheel either.

High Altitude

I would definitely be interested!  Will there be recipe variations (cooking techniques, times, affinage, etc.) and options (like adding different cultures) for each cheese - just as if one were following 3 recipes for a Brie from 3 different sources simultaneously?  Sounds like it may be pretty user-friendly, where the cheese maker can add notes to the make as they go along (?).

I'm excited to check it out when it's done  ;D.

Sigurdur, you must be Icelandic.  Are you residing there now?  I lived there for 3 years total (2 separate occasions).  LOVE the country, its people, its culture and lifestyle, and the "work hard - play hard" attitude!

Gobae, unfortunately not much in the last months. I had some personal issues come up earlier this year that made the development come to a screeching halt. Those things have now been dealt with.

High Altitude, there will be the option to modify existing recipes into new ones. The ability to take notes during the cheesemaking will also be available. :)

I am Icelandic and reside there now :)

Tis is an excellent idea.
Tetra pack charges (I think, I may be wrong) €4 million for Satline Software for making cheese.
How about that?

Scott Wallen

great idea! I have a lot of interest in cheese making software, especially for and android ap!

Mermaid

Very excited to hear about this! I run a small farmstead dairy and this would be great for entering in all my written notes .
It would also be great if your program archived every cheese make entered so that I could go back in when I tastye a cheese after aging and add notes !

I would also love the ability to convert recipes for different sized batches .

And for sure have an acidity schedule component so that a cheese make can be compared to former pH targets!
Thanks!

You do realize that this thread is almost three years old, right? The original poster hasn't been active for that long.

Let's ferment something!
Bread, beer, wine, cheese...it's all good.
