Hey everyone,

My name is Laura (not Louise :P) and I am a college student. I really don't know much about cheese but I'm super excited to learn! ;D I want to learn not only about cheese but also about all of you and your love for cheese!

I would like to learn more about what motivated you to become a cheesemonger/cheese enthusiast/curd-nerd! I really love stories (thus I'm an anthropology major) and hearing yours would be AWESOME!

Have a gouda day,

CheeseLouise

I am hobbyist. I take on all kinds of hobbies and am totally consumed by them for a few years and then I lose interest all at once. Someone said something about cheese making at brew club meeting one time. I thought it was very interesting. I've been consumed for about 5 years now. I love it. I like to buy books, and compare recipes and techniques. My husband bought a brew store and I teach cheese making classes there and age people's cheese for them. It's a lot of fun. I also started a cheese club for people who like to get together and make cheese and sample our home made beer and wine.

The longest hobby I ever had was quilting. I've sewn all of my life, but one time I made quilts non stop like a mad woman for about 7 years. Then one day I quit.

OK, Laura not Louise----so you need subjects for your next term paper ;)---I'll bite, but I refuse to enter the maze.
When the eye sight isn't as sharp as it once was---when the joints ache, pop and crack----when the hobbies you used to indulge in, have become a little to strenuous ( it's called old age ). One starts to look for activities that can keep your still active mind from following the rest of your body.
When I stumbled on a cheese making video----I said "why not"----I love cheese, always have----even if it makes the old spare tire a little more inflated. Quickly found out, that it wasn't as easy as it looked, and though it's not like running a Marathon-----a long day making cheese can certainly take a toll.---- Though the rewards can be awesome, the challenges to "get it right" can be great.----and that is probably what appeals to me the most-----did I mention the fact that I love cheese? Oh NO ----the mind is starting to slip :(  ----better go make a cheese. :)

Hi Laura. Welcome to the forum.
I enjoy cheese but I had never thought of making it until my wife bought me a cheese making kit a couple of years back, on the spur of the moment, as a birthday present . She wasn't sure whether I would like it or not.
The first attempt (a chevre) failed but the second attempt (fromage blanc) worked nicely and I went on from there.
A word of warning though: cheese making can be addictive.
