Cheese wax leaving stains on cheese

I just cut into a waxed Edam. It was waxed with red cheese wax using the high heat method (heated to 230 F). It was a small ball so I had aged it about six weeks. The "red" has leached (for a lack of a better word)  onto the surface of the cheese. Cheese tasted great so beyond the appearance it seemed okay. What may have caused this? Definitely want to avoid the issue for my next waxing experience.

Sorry no one has responded to your question yet. I haven't waxed many cheeses so caint really help you. Have you used this wax before with better results? Maybe it's just the brand or type of wax you used?
