Just brought this lightly used fridge home and would like to get it set up to work at the right temperature. I have an external controller from "Perfect Cheese" which has been working for me in another cave.
When I plug this refrigerator into the controller, the fridge does not even seem connected to the power supply at all.
Ideas?
I am not opposed to getting another external thermostat but I don't understand why the one I have does not work.

Should work. What is the room/ fridge temp compared to the controller set temp? Is it possible the controller just shut off because the temp was already right?

No, that is not it - the lights did not come on even. It is like the electricity was just not going through. When I took the controller back to the usual cave it worked just fine.

Possibly drawing too much current, shutting down the controller???  What's the controller rated for and how much does the new fridge draw (I'm guessing the lights are expensive in terms of power).

Assuming you have the temperature controller only model on their web site, it has a 10 amp max output.  The combination temp/humidity controller has 15A outputs for humidity and temperature.  There should be a plate somewhere on your fridge that tells you what its max input demand is.  I would guess max demand is with all the lights on and a compressor kicking on, if it is not thermoelectric.

I assume from the picture it works fine just plugged directly into the wall?

On the temp controller, check the ground continuity from the output plug (where fridge plus in) to the wall plug.

That's all I got :)  The controller is just a switch, like a wall switch.

The label in the fridge indicates: 115V, 60Hz, 7.9A
The controller does not have any label of any kind on it. It no longer is on the PC website.
The label on the small refrigerator (which the control works well with) indicates: 115V, 60Hz, 1.3A
Big difference....

True (no pun intended!) confessions...

This was user error!!

I forgot that I had a 2 minute delay set on the external thermostat from Perfect Cheese. When I waited long enough, the unit did come on.

Good news indeed!  7.9 Amp should be fine for your controller (assuming it is rated at 10 amps).  Glad you got it figured out.
