Travelling with homemade cheese?

Hi folks! I am going back from Canada to the UK for Christmas this year and I was hoping to take some homemade farmhouse cheddar with me, fully waxed, as a family gift. Is that allowed? Does anyone know? Many thanks for any advice or links you might have!

  You can't bring meat products, milk, dairy products or potatoes into the UK from outside the European countries.

To update from a trip in March 2022, uk still doesn't allow us to bring cheeses in. In case anyone was wondering about this still.

No, I'm afraid it's not allowed. Bringing your homemade farmhouse cheddar from Canada to the UK is prohibited under the strict rules on products of animal origin from outside the EU.

Honestly, it's a shame, but I wouldn't risk it – customs can seize it and you could face a fine. A better bet might be to order a care package of British cheese to your family instead. I've used McGrocer to send UK cheese and biscuits to friends abroad. Much less stressful than getting stopped at the border. Hope you find a good alternative.
