Roughly how many litres of milk does it take to make 1kg of cheddar type cheese?

wharris

I get about a 10% yield.
That is for every 10lbs of milk, i get roughly 1lb of cheddar.

So here is my math......
Constants...
1kg~=2.2lbs
1gal~=8.6lbs
1gal~=3.78liters

So, for 2.2lbs of cheddar will need about 22lbs of milk.
22lbs of milk is 2.55gallons of milk (22lbs/8.6lbs=2.55gal)
2.55 gallons is 9.63 liters (2.55gallons*3.78liters/gal)

So, my rough answer is that for 1 kg of cheddar cheese,  you will need about 9.63 liters of whole milk.

Groves

Differing cheese types have differing yields, but several of the types hover around a 1lb per 1 gallon yield, including cheddar.

That's .453 kg per 3.78 liters.

That's 8.34 liters to make 1 kg of cheese.

Cheddar is usually 9%-10% yield for me so I get right around 10 liters per kilo.
