What do I need to do to make my wax reusable after taking of a cheese?

Do I just drop it back in the pot and assume the heating temperature deals with everything or is there something specific I need to do?

Alex

Make sure there are no cheese leftovers stuck to the wax and drop it back into the wax pot.

Yep, that's what I do.  I gotta wax 8 wheels this weekend.  One of these days I am going to get a vacuum sealer!  Waxing is a PIA.

To keep my wax as clean as possible, I like to wash it as best I can in cool water with some detergent mainly to remove any residual fats from the cheese that might influence the wax's composition (perhaps only a concern after using the same wax several times). Rinse a couple times in clean water, spread on a rack, and air dry for several days to make sure all water has evaporated. Then add back to the pot. While I am concerned about adding fat to the wax, I dont worry too much about particles since any remaining should sink to the bottom.

Not sure that it is realistically possible to keep old wax clean and free from old food particles.

For that reason, as a rule, I do not re-use.
