Hello All!
Well, I decided to join in and take seriously my desire to live self sustaining. I clearly have a long way to go, but I'm enjoying the journey. I have tried to make two cheeses already and though not giving up, I've had to admit it's harder than I thought it would be. I love this forum and hope to make good, basic cheese for my family. I look forward to cheesing and learning with you! O0

Hello momma, welcome, it is definately harder than it sounds! But no pain no gain, the rewards are there at the end!

Where are you in Eastern Washington State?

Thanks for the warm welcome and the exhortation that this worth it. I believe your right. So since I've already had some pain,  and I'm using the collective wisdom of this forum, I think I can look forward to some eventual "gain". For the record, I'm in the Tri Ciies...Pasco.
Happy Day!

Aah, don't know that area much, one Oregon Coast holiday my family when kids were babies drove back up through the beautiful Columbia River gorge and stayed overnight at a Motel 8 in one of the Tri-Cities while enroute back to Calgary. Live in Houston now.

Hi newcheemomma,

We're practically neighbors! I'm up in Troy, a little town near Moscow, Idaho- going to school at U of Idaho. I just started making cheese a little over a year ago and have had some mediocre results and flops, but also some successes that have been rewarding enough to give me the energy to "press on".  I have dairy goats but recently have been making most of my cheese from local raw milk that I either pasteurize or not, depending on what I'm making, and also using some non homogenized pasteurized milk from Spokane Family Farms in Washington.

Trisha in WA

Welcome newcheemomma! I am in North eastern WA...between Tonasket and Republic.
Great to have you here! Be patient with yourself in learning cheesemaking. It has taken me many oops cheeses to get to where we now like eating what I make...and I still have a LOOOOONG way to go!!!

Spent some time in eastern Washington last year, Town called Richland Washington. Business trip.  Had some good times at the Tagaris Winery....
Amazes me the difference between the west and east parts of Washington.
