My butter muslin cloth gets little bits of cheese stuck to it and they are a total PAIN to get off... any tips or tricks from you old cheeses?

THanks,

I have the same problem sometimes. I just try to get it off before it gets hard, then its nearly impossible to get rid of. Scrape it off with a knife or something.

It's a common problem, we probably need a Wiki Article on it.

Bunch of info here, and little more here.

Cheers!

I use Plyban cheesecloth, and usually the bits of cheese wash out quite easily. If they are a little stubborn about it I just put the cheesecloth in a mild vinegar and water solution and let it soak until clean.

Thanks! I will try your tips.

I recently discovered that soaking my cheesecloth in white vinegar dissolves the matted-in cheese very nicely.  I now have a dedicated jar of vinegar next to the washer; my cheesecloth goes into the jar until the next convenient wash.  I take the cloth out of the vinegar and rinse before running through the usual laundry.  The vinegar in the jar is getting rather cloudy; I'll dump it when it is no longer effective.
