Hi guys,

Does anyone use the Kitchen Craft Milk Throthing thermomter? Are they any good for cheese making. Reads the right temperature ranges.

You can see 1 here:

Thanks

Looks good, personally I think the probe is a bit short though.

If you do find a mercury type like the one pictured above with an excessively long probe (one piece unit) do advise me, I have been looking for one for my deep pots, I often wonder if they make them 12" or 20" long, that would be great. I am not a fan of the ones with the wire.  Thanks

You might check this out from Leeners. It's the one I use. There may be others out there if you search.

Let's ferment something!
Bread, beer, wine, cheese...it's all good.

I would go with an instant read digi thermo for a few extra bucks.

Thanks guys, I am in South Africa so online shopping is not always that easy, or cheap. Do you think the probe is too short, I have been trying to find specs on the thermometer.

I am using something like this from time to time. Is there a nut where the probe attaches to the dial? If so, you can turn this slowly and carefully and re-calibrate the thermometer (of course you need a reliable one first as a reference or use ice slurry (0C) or boiling water (100C) technique).

Also I have pierced bottom of a small baby food container (like the one in the pic) and with the help of a little silicone I put the thermometer probe in it through the hole. It is now both a floating thermometer and floc finder.
