Finally getting around to making my first cheese this weekend! ;D Going to be the soft goat cheese recipe out of 200 easy homemade cheese book! Just wanted to know if there was any tweak that recipe needs? Read on the forums that that book had a few problem recipes... wondering if that is one of them? And also was wondering if i can boil the cheese molds to sanitize them, afraid they might warp? There the plastic goat molds from dairy connection.

Thanks for all the help!

MB79, Ive only once worked with goat milk and that was using store bought, no go for rennet set, so cant comment on the cheese you are making. There are comments on different books in our Library, just click on column heading word Subject to sort them.

On cleaning molds, I just stick mine through the kitchen automatic dishwashing machine after using, unless there are curd pieces stuck to them then give a scrub first . . . never tried to boil.

No need to boil.  Just wash well.

Welcome to cheese making!

I haven't tried any of the soft cheese recipes from the 200-cheese book, but have been pleased with the recipes I have tried.  I have found soft cheese to be fairly forgiving though.   Just plunge in!  If you don't like the way it comes out, report here and someone will make suggestions.  Are you using raw milk or ph milk?

Masterblaster79

Using raw. The main reason for trying that recipe is because of ease and access to raw goats milk! So if all goes well... its on to feta and then crottin and then and then and then! So many recipes its maddening  ;D

I strongly suggest you sanitize those molds first. As well as anything that will come in contact with the milk or cheese. Not worth going through the process and expense of the milk to waste it because of contamination.
Use a bleach solution. 1 oz to 1 gallon of water should do. Soak for about 2 mins and air dry.

Will do steff! Thank you all for the help! Will keep you updated on the make!

I can't the smell of clorox so I took a chance and started boiling everything I will use in the pot the curds will go in.  So far everything has survived very well, but I do take care to load more delicate plastics on top so they don't touch the bottom of the pot.

Starsan is another sanitizer for people who don't like bleach. Used by a lot of brewers.
