Hi everyone.
I am working on an online cheesemaking software.
I have been working on it for the past month.
I am making this software to help people - beginners and advanced users - make cheese.
The main focus of this cheesemaking software is to be simple and easy to use in order to make cheesemaking even easier and more fun.
To make sure that I'm not wasting my time making this, are you interested in seeing this type of software for cheesemaking?
Please respond to this thread and let me know if you are interested or not. Both opinions are equally valid. :-)
I would definitely use it if it was available.
I too would use this if it were available.
I need more structure with my notes instead of 'making do' with whatever recycled envelope happens to be easiest to hand. I am very well prepared with my cheese making setup but always neglect the important notes along the way. :-\

What kind of features are you considering?
Yep interested specially if it runs on Android ...

What kind of features are you considering?
The first version will focus on recipe "cloning" and easy recipe formulation.
The web design will be responsive so all monitor resolutions will be usable (smart phones, tablets, netbooks, laptops, desktops).

Awesome .. :)
Initially it will run on android browsers.
If things pan out, I will be creating apps for the major phone platforms. :)
Thanks all for the feedback :)

Sounds interesting, I look forward to seeing what you come up with. I had not heard of Yii before. I do a fair amount of web database work so I will have to check it out.
Good news!
I've opened a signup page for the cheese making software that I'm creating.
You can sign up to be notified when the software is released.
Head over to https://cheeseforge.com/ (https://cheeseforge.com/) and sign up to be in the loop when the software is launched!
You should look at what small dairies need in terms of loging and such. I reckon many might still use pen and paper but on the other hand perhaps many dont want to work a laptop with whey wet hands.

If you search you will find cheese worksheets, etc., here on the forum. ;)

Are you talking about a software that will actually help figure out things like pressing time, brining time, amounts of this or that, etc? For instance, will it convert a recipe figured on 3 gallons to the 4 gallons I want to make it with? Let us know what you are putting in it and if you're interested, tell us what types of other stuff you could add and to ask for what we want put in. Good luck!!
Is this going to work on a MAC?

Great idea, thanks Tomer. :-)
I had that planned, but thought that perhaps Sailor would like to work together to get something ready for the creameries.

Yup, that's exactly what I'm working on.
Scaling recipes and re-using recipes will be a big part of the application since the majority of cheesemakers tend to re-use and scale existing recipes.
To begin with, the application will be focusing on fewer necessary features rather than the "nice to have" features. Then as time goes by, the application will be updated with more useful features that benefit the end users. :-)

Yup .. the one thing I never like is when an application is only for such and such OS.
This application will start off by being a web application (so it works for most, if not all, OS's). If there is enough interest, then I will get the application developed for the smartphones/tablets as well.
Heck yahh I would use it :)
Hey, you could also make it easy to select whether the rennet is single or double strength and have it adjust the recipe. It'd also be nice to have the recipe get adjusted for milk type : raw vs. P/H, goat vs cow vs sheep vs water buffalo
a culture resource would be a nice feature too with info about each culture
The big issue is.....where do the recipes come from and how is choosing them? A make is partly as good as it's recipe and partly as good as how well the maker followed it.
I'm working for quite a while with a self-made offline program written in Delphi.
At the moment I'm working at a version that can be translated in whatever language and will run on both Windows and Mac.
Would be interesting to see what others make...

Those are nice ideas, thanks! :)
I'll see if I can't implement them.
As for the recipes, they come from the actual users. You will have the ability to create your own recipe from scratch or create a modified version of another recipe. :-)
Since this will be a web-based application, your recipes will be easily shared online :)

Thanks Brian :-)
It will have a US/metric option, allowing you to convert recipes on the fly :)
Has there been any additional progress made with these cheese logging/tracking software developments? I just got a tablet, the Android SDK, and I can write my own, but didn't want to reinvent the wheel either.
I would definitely be interested! Will there be recipe variations (cooking techniques, times, affinage, etc.) and options (like adding different cultures) for each cheese - just as if one were following 3 recipes for a Brie from 3 different sources simultaneously? Sounds like it may be pretty user-friendly, where the cheese maker can add notes to the make as they go along (?).
I'm excited to check it out when it's done ;D.
Sigurdur, you must be Icelandic. Are you residing there now? I lived there for 3 years total (2 separate occasions). LOVE the country, its people, its culture and lifestyle, and the "work hard - play hard" attitude!
Gobae, unfortunately not much in the last months. I had some personal issues come up earlier this year that made the development come to a screeching halt. Those things have now been dealt with.
High Altitude, there will be the option to modify existing recipes into new ones. The ability to take notes during the cheesemaking will also be available. :)
I am Icelandic and reside there now :)
Tis is an excellent idea.
Tetra pack charges (I think, I may be wrong) €4 million for Satline Software for making cheese.
How about that?
great idea! I have a lot of interest in cheese making software, especially for and android ap!
Very excited to hear about this! I run a small farmstead dairy and this would be great for entering in all my written notes .
It would also be great if your program archived every cheese make entered so that I could go back in when I tastye a cheese after aging and add notes !
I would also love the ability to convert recipes for different sized batches .
And for sure have an acidity schedule component so that a cheese make can be compared to former pH targets!
Thanks!

You do realize that this thread is almost three years old, right? The original poster hasn't been active for that long.
