Title: Cheese Labeler
Post by: hoeklijn on November 29, 2013, 07:44:07 AM
Because I wanted to create nice labels for my presses and coated cheeses, I searched the internet for a piece of software for that. I only found a web application which was nice but had only a few possibilities to offer.
So I created something myself....
You can select a background image or a background color, you can use an image in the middle of the label or not, use some rings or not, set the color of the rings, the properties of the fonts, add text and save settings for a label and of course save the image as the label and select the size. Printing must be done with an external utility.
There is a small help available and the program can update itself by downloading an update if that's available.
You can download a windows installer here (http://flexiprogram-test.s3.amazonaws.com/CheeseLabelerSetup.exe), it's an Amazon Cloud location.
If you have problems or remarks, just PM me...
Here some examples:

It's so generous of you to share, Herman. I for one will make the most of this, I think.

A cheese to you for your generosity!

On what type of paper are you printing it?  I suppose its for external use only? :)

I only use it on pressed cheeses with 3 layers of coating.
After the normal coating I use a little bit of transparent coating to glue the label on the cheese and I finish the label with transparent coating.

Yes, that is in Grand Teton national Park, I worked there this past summer, took this on the way to work, the water was so calm I had to stop just for this shot.
It is sort of in my back yard, we live on the other side of this mountain range  8)

Don't want to highjack the tread but, that's where Bobby Ryan lives. He's a famous hockey star and during the Summer, he goes back home in Idaho near Yellowknife. There was a tv show of him showing off his house and neighbourhood in your neck of the woods. Nice area! BTW, Ryan just scored an assist about 15 minutes ago. lol. Back to watching the game  ;)

New version is available.
Extra line can be added e.g. for "Ripe on:" (See below)
Background image can be panned with the arrow buttons. Landscape image horizontally, portrait image vertically.
I once had an error message after upgrading, but could not reproduce it and the program worked.
Upgrade will be started automatically when you start the previous version and auto-update is configured, otherwise go to the settings tab (Gear button) and tick "Automatic update"
When you have remarks or questions, drop me a PM.
Have fun and show me the results!

How do I get an english version?

Normally when you install it, the setup program lets you select between English and Dutch. Didn't that happen?
Otherwise go to the file location of the program, open cheeselabeler.ini and change under [General] Language=NL to Language=EN...
Or you can download it again from the link.
Let me know the result...

I was really excited to give this app a try, but when I downloaded it my OS (damn Windows 8) marked it as malware and warned me not to keep it (which I ignored) but when I tried to run the app Windows wouldn't let me  >:( .  I don't work with cloud much, but does anyone have any suggestions?  Also was curious if the lables were cut by hand or using a circle cutter?  Thanks.

Herman , again thanks for this , I love it !

But if your looking for suggestions , a great feature would be if you could add shading to the letters like on some photoshop apps , it sometimes makes the letters stand out more against multi-colored backgrounds.

But it's fine the way it is , just sayin' . ;)

I know, but it's pretty complicated to do with text that is drawn on a path. The best way to do it, is using the blur functionality that is only available in later versions of Windows, so what if somebody does not have that version of gdi+? An easy but ugly way is to draw gray text first and then draw the normal text a bit shifted over the gray text....

Hello everyone!  Has anyone figured out how to create this amazing label with a Mac?  Thanks!

Sure have!!  Shut it down and open it up in Bootcamp.  Then you can use it in windows. LOL  That's what I ended up doing.  Save the program to a cd so you can transfer it to windows.

Glad this thread got resurrected, as otherwise I would not have been aware of this program. Thanks, Hermann! Are you still maintaining this? Would there be any interest in shifting it to a multi-platform version, e.g. using Qt or wxWidgets, so that it could run on Windows / Mac / Linux? If so, I'd be glad to help.

There is also this site that allows you to customize and print labels: http://www.jamlabelizer.com/ (http://www.jamlabelizer.com/) I've used it for bacon, whisky and maple syrup jam jars with great success...well both the labels and the jam.
