How do you store your open cultures? The little one use packages are easy, but I've recently started to order the types that come in larger packages and I'm looking for the best way to store them once opened. That is, do you put the foil package in another container of some kind? Transfer the contents to another container and discard the foil pack? etc., etc.

I put mine into sterile specimen bottles (ie. For urine samples and the like) from the pharmacy. It then goes into the freezer. I write everything from the packet onto the label.

I leave them in the foil envelope, but I put that into a foodsaver bag and seal it. I cut it open, take what I need, then reseal. . Then freezer. Probably overkill.
I just use a clothespin and store them in the fridge.
I vacuum pack mine in smaller portions and freeze them.
My P. roqueforti (home grown) is inside a zip-loc bag on my counter. Room temperature approximately 22C.
I put the foil packs in a Ziploc bag, place the Ziploc bag in a Tupperware container, then place the container in the freezer. I wait until the moment I need to add the culture before taking from the freezer.
I fold the foil packet down, then put it inside a ziplock bag from which I expel all the air, then put it in the freezer. I've only been in this hobby a little over a year, and don't make a lot of cheese (don't have time!), so I have just recently finished off the first package of meso, and am close to finishing off the first package of thermo. During the +/- year that I stored these first packages this way, I did not notice any discernible deterioration. Of course, YMMV ...
I store some of my cultures in sterilized pill bottles from the pharmacy, the ones with air tight lids( no antibiotics for obvious reasons) some in Naglene bottles and some in the foil pack in zip lock bags----all go into the freezer-----have had no problems with any so far.

Yupyup, seems I'm definitely the least careful. :D
Qdog,
What is a Naglene bottle? I see a water bottle brand on a quick Google search, is it a particular model of theirs?

If you are looking for something to store your cultures in then look here (https://www.bottles.com/Plastic_Bottles.html).
Naglene is just a brand name of plastic bottles and not inexpensive-----it looks like Als link covers the question.

To be exact, the usual spelling is Nalgene. That might bring more results.
Stinky--you're right---I didn't even notice I misspelled it-----so that's what that little red line means ;)
