Title: Hello from Southern Indiana
Post by: innerspacesuit on April 12, 2009, 05:22:27 AM
I've been making cheese for a little over a year (most were successful and others a learning experience).
I obtain approx 2 gallons of raw milk through a cow-share program each month and sometimes do more cheese with store-bought milk when I have free time.
I'm very excited to have found this site!  I've already had several questions answered by just searching the forum!

Other food-related things I'm interested in: beer-making, bread, fermented foods, edible mushroom cultivation/hunting and gardening.

Glad to be here!

Jeremy,
What varieties of mushrooms do you grow?

Hi CC,

I've grown oyster and portobello mushrooms from kits.  A little less than a month ago, my girlfriend and I inoculated poplar logs with shittake plug spawn.  The logs were down in her back yard after a bad ice storm during the winter.  Hopefully we'll see some results this fall! ;)

"cheesetake"?? hah! That's a weird spell check quirk.  I actually typed s-h-i-t-t-a-k-e.

Welcome Jeremy, it's always good to have a fungi on the forum. (Sorry for the pun - I couldn't resist.) I musty admit that I was wondering what cheesetake plug spawn was. I will be interested to hear about your mushroom adventures as well as your cheese making.

Howdy Jeremy and welcome to the forum.

I'm also the Administrator and am trying to keep this forum PG-13 and had some problems in past which is why through the forum software I've flagged a few words that get auto-converted and I chose "cheese". Looks like you inadverdently found one of those ;D.

Anyway, looking forward to your input!

Welcome, Jeremy!  Great to have another member who uses raw milk on the forum.  I have my own cow, so usually make 5-gallon batches at a time.

I also enjoy bread making and gardening.  I look forward to getting to know you better and hearing about your cheesemaking adventures.

Hello Jeremy welcome to the forum. Raw milk is wonderful to work with. I just found a source recently and love it!

I like the cow share program. It seem to be becoming rather popular I have seen it alot lately. Nce to see people going back to the ole ways.

Good luck with the shiitakes, I have done them on oak logs before and had really good luck.

You should be very proud of many of your cheeses and posts but sadly(?) it wasn't you that was cussing!
