Title: Direct Set Cultures shipping methods
Post by: IllinoisCheeseHead on June 26, 2015, 02:14:52 AM
Hi

I ordered culture a few days ago from a well known supplier and it looks like the order will not arrive until Monday.  That would put the order in a 5 day transit time in the middle of the summer.

Shall I be concerned with the health of the culture?

Thanks

Depends on how it's coming and how the box is labeled. The cultures I get from thecheesemaker.com are shipped USPS and are marked as "perishable" and "needs refrigeration". According to our local postmaster they maintain a "cold-chain" during shipping and at each waypoint. I don't know how rigidly that's followed but she did get my package out of a fridge when I picked it up at the PO. Haven't had any culture issues from thecheesemaker.com yet.

I've not had any trouble with cultures shipped via USPS. At least one spent some extra time outside the freezer, due to being gone for a couple of days, but it still has performed just fine.
