Title: Hello from SW Iowa
Post by: jeb on November 10, 2017, 09:11:36 PM
Hi, I'm Jim from Clarinda, Iowa. I have a 5 goat herd of Alpine goats, milking 2 does, and have been playing with cheesemaking for a little over a year. I haven't gotten into aged cheeses, yet, as I haven't had a good place to allow them to cure. I frequently make chevre and cheese curds. I've built a temperature controller (originally to play with sous vide cooking), but intend to re-purpose it to control the temperature in a small refrigerator, to use as a cheese cave. I also make cajeta (goat milk caramel sauce) with the milk. I haven't gotten into making goat milk soap, though I probably will next summer when I have 4 goats to milk. I'm about 90% done with building a dutch type cheese press (all the pieces are cut, I just have to get the hardware to assemble it.
