Title: Is it safe for me to store cheese in the oven?
Post by: justlovecheese32 on June 01, 2018, 09:40:55 AM
Hi,
was just wondering if it is safe for the cheese if it is left in the oven.  I never use the oven other than cooking dogfood-cannelloni for my  13 yr old red setter (dietary suggestion from the canine bowel specialist) so the oven is rarely ever used.  I don't think the oven is air tight, but I don't know if that should affect it.  Let me know if it okay, because I currently have it sitting in there.

Thanks,

I can't see why it would be unsafe. It is unlikely to be less hygienic then anywhere else, especially if it is fired up every now and then.
The dogfood shouldn't be a problem as long as the dog isn't in there with it.
Whether it is ideal is another matter and would depend on the temperature and humidity. This varies according to the type of cheese but around 13C and 85% RH seems to be the most common combination for many cheeses.
Anyway, welcome to the forum.
