Title: Hello from St Louis, MO
Post by: plantdude on March 31, 2019, 05:31:12 PM
Hello everyone,

I took a class at the public library a few days ago on making cheese. It was interesting and it has inspired me to start making cheese at home. The guy who taught the class has a dutch style press that he bought. I looked at it and thought to myself I could make one in my shop for a lot less than what he paid for his and build it better. I saw the Sturdy press is no longer being made and Smolt posted plans for it on this forum. It looks like a better press than I saw and not too hard to make. If it turns out well I may start making them to sell so others can have a really good press to use.

Hey plantdude,

Thanks for checking in on the Introductions board.  It looks like there have been a lot of new members in the past month or so since I joined, so I hope others will introduce themselves as well.

It sounds like you are very new to cheesemaking and are also a woodworker with your plans to make cheese presses.  Please let us know how your cheese journey progresses!

Susan

Welcome, plantdude! As a fellow wood worker (and metal worker as well), I can attest that designing and making presses is a wonderful way to bring the cheese and wood hobbies together! You'll see in my avatar that I have been known to go a wee bit overboard in this direction. Nonetheless, I have long said, and still maintain, that there is no better design than Bob's SturdyPress. It combines versatility, capacity, and elegant simplicity in a design that is easy to build.

Many happy cheeses!
