Title: Orange mold
Post by: Terrior on November 23, 2019, 06:13:44 AM
I've recently found a crazy bright orange mold growing on some of my cheeses. The cheeses have been wrapped in cheese paper in a fridge. I've read people say that mold on cheese isn't toxic, but this one is a bit frightening! It's not a b. Linens, it is chalky/fuzzy. The cheese is fairly dry, raw milk goat cheese, also has an odd purple/brown powdery mold. Suggestions? Cut off and eat?

I have no idea what your molds are; but I was a bit curious about the orange one and did a quick internet search which revealed an orange mold much like yours.  It was characterized as a "slime mold" but said in the beginning stages it is fuzzy...Anyway, I don't know if that's what you have, but a more in-depth search might reveal what you are dealing with and whether or not it is harmless if ingested.

(The only other bright orange growth I have seen is in the moist redwood forest, where I think it is a fungus?  that grows, but it is gelatinous in texture and shape and reminds me of orange jello :) ).
