I saw an article similar to this one in one of the magazines I get -- maybe a year or two ago. Do not remember which one though...
Seems strange to me.
But, what do I know?
Interesting story. Reminds me of reading Heidi, and how they subsisted on milk and cheese in the mountains (although it was goat not cow).
For most of us, the days of preparing a body for burial, and holding a "wake" or viewing in our house are long gone (although surprisingly still legal in most places, eg. here in BC).... While I don't think I would be keen on tasting century old cheese, in some ways it is sad to see the old customs disappearing.... In any case, I found the article fascinating....

A friend of mine went to a restaurant in Helsinki, Heavy upsell for a 50 y.o. cheese. One small piece one a plate for 25 euros. So foul that he and his three friends (cheese lovers all) couldn't finish it.
Maybe better after another 99 years . . . :)

So maybe it's "Cheese for the Dead!".... ::)
Kind of like paying thousands for a 100 yo bottle of wine and then finding it's gone off.... :o
