Hi,
This is my first post on this forum. I am starting to set up to make cheese again. Did a course years ago, started full time work and didn't really even get started. Anyway, I am wondering how to label waxed cheese? Having to age cheddars and such I just know someone in my house will move stuff and I'll never keep track of it. Have been reading your posts, great info.
Welcome hens! Great forum here you'll love the people as well as the info.
Thanks Debi,
I have been looking through to forum today, this will take hours you guys have been at this for a while. I have already found some great ideas and advice.
Helen.
Hi,
I do it this way:
Hi Pavel,
How is the label fixed? Is it self adhesive or stuck in wax before it dries?
It will stick pretty well if if put it on and the wax when it's still hot and wax the edges.
Hi henscheese. Welcome to the forum. Here's another example. I dip the label in the hot wax and quickly stick it to the waxed wheel. After it sets I dip the wheel to completely seal the label.

Welcome to the forum! I use the same method as Boofer.
Thanks everyone,
Plenty of ideas there for me to have a go at. Now I just have to get all my cheesemaking gear organized and have a go.
Helen :)
I write directly on the wax with a sharpie permanent marker after the wax is completely cooled. Works great.
The downside to writing directly on the cooled wax is that you might not want to try reusing that wax. Where I can, I wash and reuse my wax. The label peels off.

One idea Sailor con Queso shared recently was to add a finished date too. It might help ease the temptation to open your cheese prematurely.
Yeah I think the date you made it and the finish date will both be very important, hubby will start eating it otherwise
It might help but I have been known to think "well it's only a month away...munch!"
I'll need to find a good hiding spot then. ;)
Send them to me. I'll hide them. In fact I will make them completely disappear. :o
Sailor's cheese bank? ;D
Helen
I have had cheeses just disappear into thin air. One day they are there and the next poof! I think I have a BIG havarti mouse in my cellar. Four 1Kg Harvatis wit dill just disappeared! :-[
