Title: Where to buy wood for aging boards
Post by: NewbieInNewHampshire on June 29, 2025, 09:25:32 PM
Hi - I've emailed lumber yards around where I live and all either didn't respond or don't have the wood variety I'm looking for... or don't kiln-dry rough-sawn wood. I'm looking for untreated, kiln-dried, rough-sawn larch (preferable) or spruce boards I can use for affinage. Does anyone have suggestions on where I might buy some? Thanks!

I wish I knew any in your area. I get my hardwood from MacBeath, and they have an online affiliated store that would probably ship to you no problem. It's pricey, but that's the world of hardwood I suppose.

If it helps for locating good wood, I've been aging my cheeses on ash boards, and I've been happy with them thus far. If you have easy access to, say 3/4 inch ash boards, you might give those a try.
