Title: Kefir Ingredients
Post by: TroyG on July 13, 2010, 12:50:06 PM

I am looking to sell my Kefir, but I need to come up with a label and to be truthful I am not 100% what I need to have under the ingredients.  I know it is considered a cultured milk product, but sine I use grains I am not sure how to list this. Any thoughts?

I notice some cheeses just list "culture" or "enzymes". Maybe that would work?

Troy, you just need to make sure you meet the CFR

http://law.justia.com/us/cfr/title21/21-2.0.1.1.19.2.1.3.html (http://law.justia.com/us/cfr/title21/21-2.0.1.1.19.2.1.3.html)

Something like "pasteurized, cultured whole goat milk", and then whatever else (sugar, vanilla, etc). Are you going to be including the grains inside of the bottle? If so, need to include that. But if you're straining them out, you're fine.

Great! That is all I could come up with, but it just seemed too simple.

No grains they will be strained out. This will be all natural no additives kefir.  :o

Thanks!!!
