Title: First Mozzarella....
Post by: Sue~ on September 27, 2010, 03:01:19 PM
Was quite the learning experience.   ::)

When my other half learned I wanted to make cheese, being the nice guy he bought me one of those 30-minute kits.  I tried that first, just to get used to maintaining temperature, cutting the curds, etc....

In the end, I had probably less than a half pound of mozz from the gallon of milk.  I cut the curds too small, stirred them too much, and during stretching the water got too warm and much of the curd kind of dissolved.  Ha!

It was fun though.  I'm looking forward to learning more!

Kudos on your first foray into cheesemaking!  Mozz tends to be the first for many, as it can be eaten fresh, but is a challenge.

You learned a lot, though, and will probably have much greater success next time.
