Title: Cheesemaking kit as a housewarming gift
Post by: LadyLiberty on January 07, 2011, 12:40:46 PM
Hi ya'll,

I'm back!  ;D

I have a friend who is into homesteading and has expressed an interest to me in cheesemaking but she has never made it.  We now have a person in Santa Cruz who carries all Rickie Carol's Cheesemaking stuff, but I'm wondering, since i can't afford to give her a press, what would be a good combination to give her?  I could get her the Yoghertthermer and fresh enzyme packets...

Or should I just get her a plant?
Let me know...

If its within your budget, get her Yogurt or cheesemaking gear, she can get a plant herself, most people that want to get into making cheese wouldn't have a clue where to source it.

Although . . . . .   . there's nothing wrong with a fruit tree as a gift  ^-^

Hi LL, welcome back, there's a starter guide here (https://cheeseforum.org/articles/wiki-recommendations-for-new-cheese-makers/) for your friend, I'd suggest fresh cheeses so mesophilic starter, rennet, draining bag, and couple draining molds, also Lipase if want to make Feta. Cheers!
